"Dream A Little Dream Of Corey Haim!"

16 Magazine
1989

16 MAG: Hi Corey! Let's talk about your first acting when you were nine years old and you were taking your first classes.
COREY: Okay, well first of all, I went to this lady's house. Her name was Myra Rudin, and her son Brad was my good friend. She taught these classes with all these kids. I went in and I just did it and it was great.

16 MAG: What made you decide to try an acting class?
COREY: My sister wanted to do it, so I did too.

16 MAG: Did you like it right from the beginning?
COREY: Yep. We were doing a lot of improv (a kind of acting where performers have to use a lot of their imagination).

16 MAG: Were you doing improvisational stuff, like where you have to become a piece of fruit?
COREY: No, just like somebody'll start a story: "'The pen was black and then the ink started going out...' Okay, you're next, Corey." And then I'd have to go, "'...It went all over the bed, the sheets got ruined and we had to wash everthing and it didn't come out...' Brad?" That kind of stuff.

16 MAG: You have to really be creative doing that.
COREY: Umm yeah, it trains your mind to think real quick.

16 MAG: Is that the kind of thing that would still interest you? Do you think you'd ever like to try stand-up comedy?
COREY: Umm, no.

16 MAG: Are you good at telling jokes?
COREY: No, not really.

16 MAG: What's your all time favorite food? Is it still pizza?
COREY: Pizza's good, but now I love lobster, boiled with a little garlic and butter.

16 MAG: What's it like to read about yourself in magazines?
COREY: I just look at the pictures.

16 MAG: You don't even read the stories?
COREY: No.

16 MAG: What was it like when you appeared in PEOPLE magazine?
COREY: I thought they were rude, because the guy was really unpleasant. And I was cool to him too; I made him lemonade. I hadda make it, you know what I mean? I go, "Dude, want some of my home-whipped battered-up lemonade?" And it was Minute Maid and it came in a carton, and it was a joke, and it was like he printed that. I don't know. It was just like it was rude. And a lot of things he put down were off-the-record too.

16 MAG: Sounds like he had made up him mind to be mean to you.
COREY: Yeah, it's just a waste of time.

16 MAG: Does it make you not want to do interviews?
COREY: No, not at all, not at all. If they're going to take me for what they think I look like, then that's okay.

16 MAG: What kind of music do you listen to these days? Do you still like Robbie Robertson?
COREY: Um yeah. He's really good. And now, I'm really into my friend, Brooke McCarter. This man's music is the best. He's just rocking. He's gonna be the new Elvis. He's really, really great.

16 MAG: Is Brooke doing acting at all?
COREY: He's got a play, a Broadway play. He's really in touch, man. He's really cool. He's in touch with everything.

16 MAG: Have you been singing his songs?
COREY: To myself, yeah.

16 MAG: You're not ready to give a public performance yet?
COREY: Uhh, no.

16 MAG: Would that scare you a lot?
COREY: No. Not at all. I'd go for it.

16 MAG: Do you do any exercises at all?
COREY: All the time, man. I work out. You know, pumping up.

16 MAG: How's Trek doing?
COREY: Oh, my dog? Trek is gone. He died. It was really sad. I don't have a dog now.

16 MAG: Do you tend to have more girl friends or guy friends that you hang out with?
COREY: More guy friends. A lot more.

16 MAG: What would you value most in a relationship?
COREY: I'd value the confidentialness, you know? When you can trust being able to tell secrets. I value the respect and the honesty; that's what I value.

16 MAG: Do you get tired of people asking you about relationships?
COREY: Yeah, sometimes yeah. It's like, "What color pajamas are you wearing?" I feel like, "Well, why don't you come over and see, man?" It's kind of personal.

16 MAG: What was your most embarrassing moment?
COREY: Embarrassing? Gee, I don't know. There's a lot of 'em. There's just too many of 'em.

16 MAG: Who was your first crush? What was her first name?
COREY: My first crush? Man, I don't even remember. I think I was seven.

16 MAG: Do you ever get presents from your fans?
COREY: Yeah, I get a lot of presents from Japan 'cuz LOST BOYS was really popular over there. I get a lot of drawings of me too. That's cool.

16 MAG: Have you ever gotten like a really good one?
COREY: Yeah, it's hanging up in a frame on the wall.

16 MAG: What was the weirdest gift you ever got from a fan?
COREY: The weirdest gift I ever got from a fan was in Tokyo, and I got a bunch of chocolates. I was like getting ready to just chomp into them, and I opened one of 'em up, and they had like little robots in 'em.

16 MAG: Robots?
COREY: Yeah, like these little Transformers. And they were made out of metal.
